Maire Conneely is a Senior Associate in the Litigation and Dispute Resolution Department of A&L Goodbody specialising in all aspects of intoxicating liquor licensing, gaming and lotteries and betting law. Maire led the team that successfully challenged the earlier closing times imposed on publicans and nightclub owners in the City of Limerick in Ireland and advised on the liquor licensing requirements for The Ryder Cup 2006. Maire has recently advised a number of property developers on the liquor licensing aspects of their successful tenders for properties such as the Great Southern Hotel, Parknasilla, The Burlington Hotel and Jurys Inns. Maire has also advised various international on-line gaming and betting and auctioneering companies in relation to their Irish operations and the establishment of support services in Ireland for their on-line operations. Maire is a member of The International Association of Gaming Attorneys.

Ireland’s Minister for Justice must take steps to regulate the Irish gambling industry in order to comply with Ireland’s obligations under EU law. But Maire Conneely, senior associate at Irish law firm A&L Goodbody, asks whether regulating the industry could be done in a manner that would also help swell the state’s coffers.
