While the Ohio state lottery remains profitable, a proposal to privatize it has recently been put forward in order to enable more Ohioans to enter higher education. The state’s racing industry, on the other hand, has suffered yet another period of declining revenues.

Following Governor Crist's pleas for the Seminole and the state legislature to reach an amenable consensus on the tribe's compact agreement, a resolution appears to be within reach. Meanwhile, the recent introduction of a legislative proposal calling for regulated intra-state online poker will test the reach of the US Department of Justice.

While Colorado State Lottery revenues dwindled last year, the state’s numerous casinos have enjoyed a steady growth as a result of Amendment 50. In the meantime, a legal battle surrounding the status of poker rages on with the Colorado Supreme Court to decide in due course.

After years of consistent growth, Washington's gaming market showed signs of susceptibility to the recession's grip, although the state's tribal gaming sector generated modest gains. Meanwhile, Washington's prohibitive internet gambling law is set to be tested by the state's Supreme Court later this year.

Numerous gambling measures will serve as focal point of Iowa's 2010 legislative session, as state's powerful Democratic leaders remain committed to staving off further increases on state taxpayers and instead turn to gambling to alleviate a portion of the state's estimated $400m shortfall.

The Jamaican government is pushing for the passage of a law to legalize casinos. It will also amend existing legislation to introduce new licensing requirements, amend some tax provisions and increase penalties.

The swift enactment of Delaware's table game legislation has spurred the state's three racetrack casinos into action. Meanwhile the state is expected to launch a challenge to a federal court of appeals decision which has hindered the success of Delaware's inaugural NFL sports betting operations.

On the heels of a noteworthy 2009 performance, in which Missouri's casino market served as one of a very select few to see gains amidst the height of the recession's grip, 2010 will be marked by the emergence of River City, the state's 13th and final casino which is slated for a spring 2010 launch.

As the prospect for increased regional competition continues to mount, Indiana lawmakers are contemplating proposals to protect the state's commercial casino and racino market, although a measure to allow riverboat casinos to move inland has been struck from draft legislation.
