The Lula Government has opened discussions with Brazil’s troubled bingo operators ahead of a possible regulation of the activity later this year. A government minister has been appointed to liaise between the industry and politicians with a view towards formulating a legislative project that would allow bingo halls to be licensed and regulated by the country’s main bank and national lottery operator Caixa. Any legalization of machine gambling seems to be off the political agenda, however.
