New legislation filed in US Congress last week has underscored the difficulties faced by the US Treasury and Federal Reserve in introducing effective regulations for the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act passed nearly two years ago. Nevertheless, in the first part of our overview of internet gambling payments bans globally, GamblingCompliance notes that despite its own ongoing domestic travails, the UIGEA is having considerable extra-territorial influence, and regulators elsewhere in the Americas are watching the Federal Reserve’s next step with the utmost interest.
