Betting shop operators looking to expand on the streets of north London have a new enemy: councillor Nilgun Canver, Haringey’s cabinet member for enforcement and safer communities. Canver has commissioned research into the effect of certain provisions of the Gambling Act pertaining to the licensing of betting shops and their effect on crime and vulnerable people in the local area.
