A court in Stuttgart ruled last week that local Bundesliga football team VFB Stuttgart should not be prohibited from carrying adverts for Austrian bookmaker Bwin. Yet a ruling against the Unibet.com cycling team’s right to participate in Spain, where Bwin has also a high-profile deal with Real Madrid, indicates that controversy surrounding the issue of sports sponsorship by gambling companies will still be a bone of contention during the 2007/2008 season.
